Hotel Ras Al Akhdar, Abu Dhabi, EAU.
Designed to host visiting heads of state and an elite international clientele, the project defines itself as a “home away from home.” combining the intimacy of domestic space with the elegance of world-class hospitality.
The design is a contemporary reinterpretation of Islamic architectural traditions. Inspired by the form and spirit of the kasbah, the hotel is composed as a floating village of rooms and residences organized around seven inner courtyards. These shaded spaces bring light, ventilation, and a sense of privacy-evoking the layered richness of the Islamic city. The building sits above a lush welcome garden, conceived as an oasis, offering a serene and immersive arrival experience.
The hotel creates a microclimate beneath its mass, enhancing comfort through both form and landscape. Signature spaces include a sky restaurant suspended like glass stalactites, offering panoramic views of Abu Dhabi and the Arabian Gulf.
The project was unveiled at Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2018 within the IMKAN Box exhibition, accompanied by a 1:15 scale model showcasing the hotel’s unique concept and refined detailing.
